HIGHLIGHTING ALYSSA STABILE
Meet Alyssa Stabile... a single mom, and recruiter for TEKsystems who quickly felt the financial impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic while holding on to her commission based role. Though never furloughed, and blessed to continue working full time, this tenacious self-starter got creative about how to address and overcome her professional circumstances by starting a custom order Macrame, aptly named Macramaniac. Read on for our interview with Alyssa to find out how she had her light bulb moment to take a risk on herself.
H&F: Please describe your career prior to this venture.
Alyssa: Full-time national IT recruiter
H&F: How has your career prepared you for what is next?
Alyssa: My current job taught me a lot about sales, I also came from a background in event management and worked for a wedding planning/floral company!
H&F: Tell us about how you have redefined yourself.
Alyssa: I have always craved a creative job but just never had the time to do so. I am a natural DIY'er and absolutely love refurbishing and creating products for my home. Over quarantine, I have picked up a talent for making macrame wall décor and decided to see if they would sell. I started
making custom orders for people and just saw that this could be a great opportunity for me to make some money while doing something that I enjoy doing, being creative!
H&F: When/how did you get that Light Bulb Moment to start this brand?
Alyssa: I got the idea for making macrame designs while scrolling the internet one day in search for some room décor. I saw some macrame products but none that I absolutely fell in love with so I thought “I wonder if I could just make exactly what I wanted” and the ideas came to me from there.
H&F: What do you want the world to know?
Alyssa: I can make pretty much anything in terms of macrame! I take custom orders and can even sit down and sketch out designs. They can be completely unique pieces to your home that no one else would have.
H&F: What is the meaning behind your brand name?
Alyssa: This is kind of a funny answer but I started making Halloween inspired macrame décor for Halloween, being a big horror fan I just stumbled upon the idea of Macramaniac. Not only is it a pun on macrame but it suits my personality perfectly!
H&F: How do you find your inspiration for your projects?
Alyssa: Other people, nature, and other inspirational photos. But mostly I like making pieces that would fit in my own home.
H&F: What encouraging advice would you offer someone unsure about starting their own venture?
Alyssa: Just try it! Don’t let the fear of failure stop you from taking risks in life.
